The Fairmount Park Conservancy recently updated the Fairmount Park 10-Mile Trail and mapped out a new 10-mile course in South Philly, with stops at Navy Yard, Mifflin Square Park and Marconi Plaza. Full itineraries are available online.

For runners who want to familiarize themselves with the trails of Fairmount Park and FDR Park, or for those training for the Broad Street Run, professional fitness trainer John Goldthorp runs the Training on Trails races every Wednesday. Those interested can register to participate online.

For those interested in meeting their neighbors while exercising, We Walk PHL offers a free walking program that spans 18 parks across the city and runs from September through October.

Volunteering

Residents who wish to give back can join conservation staff for weeding sessions on Tuesdays or Wednesdays on tree maintenance at rotating locations. Volunteer events are open to anyone and all tools are provided. A full calendar of volunteer opportunities can be viewed online.

Later this fall, more than 100 volunteer groups will be holding park cleanups as part of the Fall Love Your Park Day of Service on Saturday, November 13. To prepare Philly’s parks for winter, volunteers will plant trees and bulbs, rake leaves and dispose of litter. Those interested in volunteering can register online starting October 13.
