Chamber Award winners shine in tough business climate

Congratulations to this year’s Business Alliance award winners.

Sponsored annually by the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, the 2021 awards recognized Pauli Electric as Small Business of the Year; and Stark Parks as the Big Business of the Year. Coastal Pet founder Jim Stout received the Spirit of Enterprise Award.

The chamber also awarded the Alliance City Health Department with a Special Appreciation Award for its work to help Carnation City weather the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

This pandemic was the reason the 2020 awards didn’t take place in person, so Monday’s recognition ceremony also celebrated last year’s winners: Tannenhauf Golf Club, Small Business of the Year; the Alliance Family Health Center, big business of the year; and Mark Fedor of Morgan Engineering, Spirit of Enterprise.

The past two years have created unprecedented challenges for local and regional businesses, which still face the aforementioned pandemic on several fronts: mental and physical health of employees, supply chain disruptions and labor shortages. ‘artwork. All of them were also widely publicized at the state and national levels.

Dealing with such challenging headwinds requires a steady hand and the willingness to innovate. This year’s and last year’s winners are exemplary in both cases, finding ways to survive and thrive.

The upcoming holiday season appears to bring even more challenges, as officials warn that various pandemic disruptions will affect the availability of goods until the end of the year. We’re optimistic that companies like the ones honored this week will continue to find creative ways to expand their successes, but it won’t be easy.

When local businesses prosper, everyone wins. The money is much more likely to stay in the community, where it benefits local workers, city and municipal governments, and charities. We encourage our readers wherever possible to buy locally.

Businesses in the region are fortunate to have a receptive partner in the Alliance House, which creates an environment of cooperation and camaraderie, as opposed to competition.

Once again, we salute all those who have been recognized this year for their invaluable contribution to the economic success of the community.
