Here’s how you can soothe the stressed mind
The pressure of exams in India is no joke. Everyone from parents to children is stressed, and the cause is competitiveness, expectations and comparison. Apart from that, peer pressure and school pressure make the problem worse. Exam anxiety is something that can be seen in almost any student who is about to take an exam. Although it is not uncommon, it can have a negative impact on the performance of any student.
With an estimated 20-50% increase in the number of students seeking treatment for study-related mental health issues each year, it is evident that we are under greater pressure than ever before. The majority of these situations can be seen in students who would take board exams. Their performance is hampered because of this fear of exams. To overcome this problem, we’ve listed a few ways to calm your mind and help you focus better during your exams.
Talk to someone if you are having difficulty
It is never embarrassing to ask for help. It can help save a life even in the most extreme cases. When you are in pain, share your feelings with friends, family, or your personal instructor. Otherwise, don’t be afraid to seek expert advice and assistance.
Eat, sleep and exercise regularly
Trying to get through sleepless nights, surviving on a poor diet, and doing little activity in your day can all exacerbate anxiety levels. Make sure you’re getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night, getting adequate slow-release carbs, less coffee and more water, and at least half an hour of exercise a day to keep your body functioning at peak performance.
Remember to breathe deeply
Set aside a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness methods, such as breathing exercises or UCL’s 10 Minute Mind. It helps calm your body’s stress response and helps you focus on the current situation. As a result, you will have more time to objectively work on your fears and be able to face a significant number of tests and start a more productive review.
Play with puppies and bubble wrap
Where do puppies come in when it comes to exam stress? Playing with pets has long been a great stress reliever. Pets have also been shown to help you focus when studying, however, we wouldn’t advocate bringing your pet hamster into the library! Another stress reliever you can save for home study is popping bubble wrap.
Give your mind time and space
Meditation is one of the most effective strategies for relaxing and seeing your stress in a new light. Meditation is another method of maintaining attention while improving mental and physical health and reducing stress before the exam.
