The loss not only took its toll on her mind, but her physical health suffered tremendously as well. However, after months of determined effort, our Shaq was finally able to get back on his feet with his physical form and recover his body from the Miami Heat of 2006.

In an interview with Men’s Journal, Shaquille O’Neal revealed how he was able to regain his long-lost motivation and fitness. Shaquille O’Neal’s secret, you ask yourself? This is only an hour of exercise per day and a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein.

Diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein

Shaquille O’Neal shared how following a low-carb, high-protein diet helped her achieve her fitness goals by gaining muscle and losing fat. He started consuming small portions and gave up bread, Oreos, and cakes. The diet led him to consume a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, salads, protein shakes, chicken and fish. Here are some health benefits of a high protein, low carbohydrate diet:

  1. It can help boost muscle strength and growth.
  2. It can improve bone health and give the body a strong structure.
  3. It can help catalyze the fat burning process.
  4. It can help in a healthy metabolism which can promote weight management.
  5. It can promote healthy dietary regulation by reducing feelings of hunger, managing appetite, and avoiding overeating.

Exercise – Keep it short but consistent

Shaquille O’Neal’s transformation has proven that lavish training can’t guarantee results, but consistency and hard work certainly can. Shaq’s exercise routine lasted over an hour a day and consisted of cardo, chest, bis, sorting and sit-ups.

State of mind is important

Acknowledging the lack of free time among men over 40, Shaquille O’Neal advised taking at least an hour out of her busy schedule to exercise. In addition to benefiting physical health, it will also have a positive impact on mental well-being. After a long period of inactivity, procrastination is easy to find. However, people have to try to replace the ‘I will do it tomorrow’ mentality with ‘I will do it right away’.
