This (the Beijing Winter Olympics) is a good opportunity for world leaders to meet in Beijing and, in a friendly atmosphere, find ways to solve problems and start a dialogue for peace and Security. The spirit of the Winter Olympics is a chance to create and develop collaboration, not only in sport, but also in other fields, between the nations of the world. As we see, the Games also provide an opportunity for dialogue between the young leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other countries, because we are all here for this reason, so I hope that we will all share contacts and continue cooperation in the future to build a better world.

The significance of the Olympic Games as an international event is unprecedented, as the Olympic Games embody human solidarity, peace and the pursuit of boundaries. In the face of modern problems, such as the scarcity of resources and the destruction of the environment, I think it is even more important to lead by example by taking care of the planet when organizing the Olympic Games. Under the three mantras of “Reuse”, “Sustainability” and “Hi-Tech”, the Beijing Winter Olympics is not only the biggest event in the sports community, but at the same time sets an example. reflecting modern problems and providing solutions. By hosting the Games, China sought to save resources, promote economic development and avoid pollution. If we want a better future, I believe that is what we need to focus on.

Today, in the face of the global challenges of COVID-19, it is important to preserve the values of friendship, mutual understanding, respect and the humanistic principles which are the basis of Olympism and the Olympic Games. We athletes can do a lot in this regard; to share our own experiences, emotions, understanding and determination, our capacity to be friends and to help, and to serve as examples of courage and the search for perfection and harmony. I think the Olympians were and remain an example for the younger generation. They are able to motivate children not only to strive for athletic excellence, but also to become models of personal development and spiritual, physical and intellectual health.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be the opening games. Thanks to its reforms, Beijing has become a modern metropolis, developing rapidly in terms of cutting-edge innovations and intelligent technologies in transport, infrastructure and communications, a city where small and medium-sized enterprises, the bedrock of well-being urban, are being developed intensively. In the process, Beijing has paid attention to the priorities of energy efficiency and energy conservation, as well as environmental protection. The Beijing Olympics will show that China is a hospitable host and has carefully organized a great sports festival for the international community.

We have been nurturing the Olympic spirit in our country for some time. Peace, prosperity and the constant search for development are all Olympic values shared by our youth. An overwhelming majority of our people show a particular interest in Olympic sports, especially those whose roots go back to our deep historical values. We participate in Olympic and sporting events not only as competitors, but also as volunteer organizers and creators of positive change. A clear manifestation of this was the successful organization of the European Games in Baku in 2015, as well as the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017. This year it is wonderful to see Azerbaijani athletes participating in the Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022. I wish them good luck!

This 24th Winter Olympics held in Beijing is also a proud and exciting event for Cambodia, as it is the first time that our Olympic Committee has been invited to participate in the Winter Games. As a tropical country, our athletes have not competed in previous Winter Games, so we are excited to do so now. The joy of winter sports, which I personally discovered during my university studies in cold countries, is that they bring to people, and especially to young people, adventure, surprise and ‘excitation.
